WONCA stands for "The World Organisation of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians" or in short "The World Organisation of Family Doctors": it is a world wide organisation representing general practitioners and family doctors. WONCA Europe consists of a total of 30 members and represents more than 45 000 general practitioners throughout Europe. Its principle role is to promote and develop the discipline, in order to obtain the highest levels of education, instruction and practical clinical research for the benefit of individual patients and the community.
The theme of this years conference, "Re-Thinking Primary Care in the European Context" offered us a great opportunity to introduce the WatchBP family products as the new golden standard for physician and home blood pressure measurements to more than 4'500 attendees from all around Europe. Microlife sponsored an educational workshop on the topic "Guideline based Blood Pressure Measurement" with lectures given by Dr. Jean-Marc Boivin, member of the French Hypertension Society and Dr. Thomas Mengden, a leading hypertension specialist from Germany. The workshop took place at the WONCA congress and was well attended with around 130 specialists. Microlife's Blood Pressure Monitors especially the new WatchBP producs were well received by the visitors who consisted mainly of European GP's.
